About the Poem

Why this text sits at the heart of the Tajweed curriculum.

The Author

ابن الجزري

Imam Muhammad Ibn Al-Jazari Ash-Shafi'i (d. 833 AH) was the foremost authority of his age in the science of Qur'anic recitation, and his chains of transmission run through nearly every reciter teaching today.

The Text

المنظومة

A concise didactic poem of just over a hundred lines that gathers what every reciter must know before beginning — the articulation points, the characteristics of the letters, and the rules that follow from them.

How We Study It

الدراسة

Line by line, with the meaning of each verse explained and then applied directly to recitation, so that the theory is never separated from the sound of the letter on the tongue.
